Set on the absolute waterfront, this Bondi Beach apartment renovation reimagines a three-bedroom residence into a contemporary retreat. With a focus on sleek design and lasting durability, this apartment now provides a stylish, low-maintenance retreat by the ocean.

Originally purchased more than a decade ago, the apartment remained largely untouched, with ongoing water ingress issues contributing to periods of vacancy. The brief was to create a durable yet elegant coastal base for the owner—one that could withstand the demands of its beach-side location while offering comfort and longevity.

Henry May was engaged as both Class 2 Architect and Class 2 Builder, overseeing architectural delivery, technical resolution and construction. This integrated approach proved critical given the building’s age, coastal exposure and the scale of remedial works required.

The renovation involved full demolition, new services throughout and structural modifications to improve functionality and flow. A wall was removed to open the kitchen to the living area, creating a more connected space. The kitchen was detailed with imported D-tile finishes and a Bora induction cooktop with integrated extraction, eliminating overhead bulkheads and creating a clean, architectural aesthetic. A Mondoluce feature light provides both functional and ambient illumination.

A cohesive, durable material palette was introduced throughout, with D-tile to wet areas, reconfigured bathrooms, a new master ensuite and custom joinery. Timber flooring and carpeted bedrooms complete the interiors, alongside essential remedial works addressing concrete cancer to ensure long-term structural integrity in this coastal environment.
