Occupying the full floor of a harbour-front building in Darling Point, this north-east–facing apartment presented a rare combination of opportunity and complexity. The client approached us after speaking with a number of builders, looking not only for capability but for something more fundamental: transparency, a team who genuinely understood his vision, and a process that felt collaborative.
The apartment’s wedge-shaped footprint, structural columns and angled zones demanded precise planning and creative problem-solving. Rather than presenting obstacles, the team developed adaptive solutions with clear communication at every stage, a transparency that ultimately shaped both the relationship and the project’s clarity.
The nature of the building required both a Class 2 architect and builder, and Henry May’s expertise — from coordination and documentation through to delivery — ensured compliance, process and technical accuracy throughout.
Select curved walls were introduced to soften the geometry and create a natural rhythm between spaces, responding to the client’s wish for rooms that complement one another A key moment in the reimagined layout is the arrival sequence, where guests step directly from the lift lobby into the harbour view. Materially, the home is grounded by herringbone timber flooring in the living areas, Driftwood sisal in the bedrooms, and fully custom joinery tailored to the client’s lifestyle. In the living room, the joinery becomes a focal point, crafted in Laminex Aged Walnut with a Saint Laurent porcelain top, complemented by custom aluminium shelving and acoustic paneling. The kitchen centres on a Calacatta Borghini stone island with Caesarstone surfaces and integrated appliances, delivering refinement and functional calm.
The finished home is deeply attuned to its owner — a harbour-front residence where the view is celebrated and every detail reflects trust, collaboration and exceptional craftsmanship.
